Baby Shower!

The best thing about babies is almost always the fun baby showers!  My mom and sister pulled out all of the stops with the cutest little ducky themed shower around.  Baby Bruce and I were so spoiled by the love that went into planning the shower and the love of all our family and friends at the shower.  I think the pictures tell the story the best!

Anemia While Pregnant

My doctor's office has a don't call us, we'll call you policy.

I mean, you CAN call them if something is wrong, of course.

But, generally speaking they operate upon the no news is good news policy.

So when they called me Tuesday...after having my glucose test...

I got scared!

The very good news is I passed my glucose test.  The news they wanted to share was that my hemoglobin levels were low and I needed to add more iron to my routine.  Although my prenatal has iron, Dr. wants me to get 65 units more daily from a supplement.  This definitely explains the extreme fatigue I've been feeling plus some weird bruising (I'm not a bruiser normally).

I picked up an iron supplement called "Gentle Iron" by Solgar.   My doctor recommended I take the pill with citrus to help absorption, so I grabbed a single serve bottle of Cuties juice.  He also directed me to take it at the opposite time of day as my prenatal.  So thankful there's an explanation to why I was having a hard time staying awake during the day!

Washed it down with this...so yummy and only 100 calories!

Forget Pee Not

You can’t make this stuff up.   Last night my husband asked me to leave a check for the tile guy to buy the last of the supplies he needs for our master bath remodel that’s currently in progress.

Sure, No Problem!

He reminds me this morning again to leave a check.  Yup, I’m on it.  I get to work and he texts to ask if I left the check.

NOPE! Totally forgot.
Still a mess, but looking darn good!

Fast forward three hours later and I am arriving at the doctor's office for my monthly OB check.  And I have.to.potty.

They usher me in as usual to the bathroom to leave a sample.  I take the cup, write my name on it, put it on the counter, sit down to do my business.

I do my business...

...and realize I completely forgot to use the cup.

Empty and totally embarrassed I managed to squeak out a tiny amount and mumbled something to the nurse about “I guess I didn’t really have to go that bad after all…”

OMG.

The Big 3-4

Birthdays in your 30's are kind of a funny thing, no?

30 was GREAT!  I had a fun filled week of celebration with family and friends.
30th!

30's in general are also GREAT.  I love being 30.  It's a vast improvement over my 20's where I was flopping around like a fish trying to figure out who I was and who I wasn't.

Maybe it's because we have a lot going on right now, but mostly I am just so excited for Baby Boy Bruce that I'm not thinking too much about myself these days.  My girlfriends celebrated me a couple weeks before my actual birthday.

On the day of my birthday we kept it simple.  I wanted to enjoy a morning at home, with blueberry pancakes please.

Then, I wanted to go see Pongo.  Which we did and my sis-in-law and nephews came out to meet him too for the first time.  That was really special.

Then we got foot massages, mine was free since it was my birthday - thanks Relax Ave.  Finally, we went to dinner with my parents and Corey's parents at a really yummy Persian restaurant.  Corey and I got home around 8pm and because he'd never seen it, we watched Mean Girls.  That movie never gets old.

Cirque Du Bebe - Our Circus Themed Baby Shower!

Yesterday my work friends threw me and my other co-worker Shea (due in July) a double baby shower.

We're so lucky to work with the nicest people.  Our work friends really are our friends, which is lovely seeing as we spend 8+ hours per day with them, 5 days a week.

The theme was Cirque Du Bebe.  We had circus themed food like soft pretzel bites, candy, popcorn and of course, a giant chocolate cake.  The gals gave out cotton candy as favors.

It was the most fun celebrating the upcoming arrival of our two little monkeys with these amazing gals - funny, only one of our male co-workers made an appearance, haha!  Time to start on a big stack of thank you cards now!

1 Hour Glucose Tolerance Test

What better way to start a 3 day weekend than to take a Glucose Tolerance Test!

Yum.

I was a little psyched out for this test honestly after reading one too many message boards.  Some people really have a hard time drinking the liquid, some even get sick.  Plus, I was also terrified to fast...FAST?...for the morning of.

I booked my appointment for 8:15am.  With an empty and anxious stomach I headed over to Quest.

I got right in and they started by taking 2 small vials of blood, no biggie.  Then I got THE DRINK.

Here's the deal...I didn't think it was that bad.  Is that bad?  Maybe it's because I like sugar, maybe it's because I eat/drink too much of it normally.  In case you're curious, Haribo ANYTHING is my favorite.

Give me the fructose and nobody gets hurt
I chugged it easily in 5 minutes.  It wasn't something I'd voluntarily drink again at 8am for no reason, but it was not terrible. It just tasted like cold, flat orange soda with an ever so slight bitter aftertaste.

I also asked the phlebotomist about fasting vs. not fasting.  My doctor had me fast.  Her opinion (simplified) was that she sees more people who do not fast fail the test.  She said the 3 hour test you have to take if you fail is not fun so she is on board with fasting before the 1 hour test.

While it wasn't nice starting my day with straight orange Otter Pop flavored sugar water, it wasn't awful either.
Going...going...GONE!
An added bonus was my friend Fran waltzed in for an appointment too while I was waiting.  So I got to catch up with a her while I waited which couldn't have been more fun.

After an hour, or so they brought me back again, took 1 small vial of blood and I was all set.

I headed to Noah's and treated myself to a bagel thin turkey sausage breakfast sandwich.  It's a few hours later now and while I don't feel 100%, I don't think I feel any worse than anyone would if you chugged a big, real sugar soda.

In fairness, while I like gummy candy a lot, I don't drink these - EVER!
Fingers crossed I pass the test!
